Could 2020 Be The End Of The Two Party System?

A look at all possible 2020 candidates way too far out, and the reason we may see a true third party candidate.

I for one never thought we would see a day where there was even a chance we would be discussing the crumbling of the duel party system. It is the one thing I believed this country needed more than anything but was never something I believed to be attainable. However that day may be here closer then we think with the 2020 election right around the corner, and a list of celebrities hoping to throw their name in the running with no current party affiliate.

To begin lets take a look at some of the very real possibilities to run for the presidential seat in 2020, starting with the right.  Many start with the obvious incumbent President Donald Trump, excluding any possible impeachment between now and then, but I do not believe he is the obvious choice on the right.     His lack of support from within his own party ensures he will almost certainly be tested in the primary.  John Kasich who has publicly flirted with the idea of another presidential run in 2020 would have no issue running opposed to Trump.  Other perennial names such as Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz could arise again if a real shot at the primary is open.  This is all saying Trump even attempts to run in 2020.  We all know how historically disliked Trump has become and if he carries this unapprovedratings late into his first term his frail ego my allow him to bow out instead of handling sure defeat. Again this all comes down to Trump lasting 4 years which becomes murkier and murkier everyday.  If Trump is impeached and Mike Pence takes office you can surely expect to see him throw his name on the ballot in 2020.  the real interesting question arises if Trump is impeached, will the Right primary Mike Pence in 2020? Or would they give them the seat?  He has the experience, specially now being Vice President, but could his ties to trump stain him beyond repair with the American people? Probably.

As for the Left they will be flush ions entering the 2020 election and most enter and generally equal footing.  Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts Senator, probably has a slight lead 3 years out for whatever that is worth.  A Bernie-lite radical, she is not as tied to her socialist beliefs while also being younger, as well as a female helps her check more identity politics boxes (Top priority on the Left) then sure to run Bernie Saunders.  As time gets closer if the Democrats want to win she will have to reel back her far left beliefs or risk losing the parties support as the Left should realizes what they truly need is a moderate.  Enter Joe Biden.  My top choice for the Left and a candidate moderate enough to steal votes away from the right while still appeasing his constituents.  Joe Biden not only has the experience and name recognition as Obamas V.P, but he is generally liked across the board by those willing to accept others rom across the isle. His combination of moderate views, likable persona, as well as willingness to run makes him a tough candidate to stop entering 2020 so long as his health holds up and old age does not become an issue.  Other names currently on the outside looking in that could gain traction as we get closer are New Jersey Senator Cork Booker as well as California Senator Kamala Harris. Both have the political experience to warrant conversation but more importantly to the Left they both check extra boxes.  Booker, an African American as well has Harris, a female African American both could both benefit from the identity politics the left has fallen in love with.

With both the left and right flush with internal candidates it would be almost impossible for a third party candidate to hijack a party as Trump did in 2016, but this does not mean we will not be seeing one (or more!).  Fortunately for us citizens the #Kanye2020 seems to have subsided, but many celebrities still publicly flirted with the idea of running in 2020 after the success Donald Trump had.  Many have gone silent or wished up but a few names continue to pop up as legitimate candidates for 2020.  Mark Zuckerberg leads the pact because it is almost a fact that Zuckerberg runs next election cycle.  He has publicly states his interest in the position, and his recent appearances in states such as Iowa for meet and greets is obviously not in connection his Facebook business (sorry people of Iowa). He is an interesting candidate for many reasons.  Be it his money, power, fame, or the fact he is untouched by the system of government that corrupts so many lifelong politicians, Zuckerberg is a name that all on his own can garner a substantial number of votes. Mark Cuban falls into almost the exact same boat.  He has been a little more coy with his 2020 plans but Cuban also bolsters the name recognition as well as capital to self fund a presidential run.  He has the same business success as Trump without the inflated ego to accompany it so if we see this current experiment work out, Cuban could be they type of candidate Americans are looking for.  And if neither of these tickle your fancy the final candidate Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson should because really who doesn't one the rock? And that is what he will run on.  The Rock may be one of the most loved superstars of the modern era which is a nearly impossible task.  Sure he has his haters but with the majority of the public on his side, a charismatic personality, a good guy persona, and a boat load of cash, Dwayne Johnson will be a very challenging candidate for anyone to compete with in 2020.

We are still three years out but with all of this uncertainty in the air it is apparent 2020 will be an interesting election cycle and who knows what will happen.  But one thing is for sure, at least one legitimate third party choice will have a chance.
